Stolen van missing items of fire service uniform

0 Comments | Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, Aug 6, 2008

A Stolen van which contained items belonging to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, was found in Keadby.

Police and firefighters are appealing for information after the van, which contained uniforms and other property, was stolen from the yard behind Thorne Fire Station.

The vehicle, which belonged to a member of staff, was taken sometime on Wednesday, July 23.

It was recovered on Station Road, Keadby, on Sunday, July 27 and when police returned the van to the fire brigade, it was discovered that several items had been stolen.

Some of the property included items of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue uniform, including two white fire service shirts with a shield emblem on the arm and two black fire service T-shirts also displaying the shield emblem.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said the force was concerned the uniform may be used by people posing as firefighters, and would urge people to always double check identity badges.

All fire service staff who perform home fire safety checks carry identity badges. If in doubt, people can call South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue on 0114 272 7202 or their local fire station.

Anyone with information about the theft of the van is urged to call Doncaster Crime Management Unit on 01302 385135 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I know that we belong to

by admin on Jul.31, 2010, under Uncategorized

I know that we belong to a throwaway society these days but there is something about our baby things that makes us want to hold on to them. Be grateful for these offerings because babies are an expensive business but make sure it’s all safe before you use it.

Is it a cot, cradle or crib?

There is a special something about your baby?s first bed, whether it’s a Moses basket or a crib (cot or cradle in the US) or a cot (US ? crib). You can spend many hours lovingly re-lining and making drapes for a cradle that you’ve been given and you can check whether it’s safe for baby at the same time.

Checking baby bedding and crib for safety

If your cradle was made of wicker make sure that there are no broken or loose bits of wood and that all the joints are tight. You will probably need to replace the mattress because that’s the one thing that may not have survived very well. When fitting the drapes make sure that there are no loose threads or pieces of material that the baby might grab a hold of and shove into their mouth.

Buy new bedding for crib if you can

Most organisations that are concerned with the safety of baby furniture, such as the Juvenile Products Manufacturer?s Association in the USA and British Standards in the UK say that you should buy new furniture and bedding if it’s possible.

Tourists ripped off by Westcountry cost

0 Comments | Western Morning News, The, Apr 27, 2010

In an article in the Western Morning News, the chairman of the Devon and Cornwall Business Council stated that the organisations’ website would be naming the shaming fuel companies who charge more on out of town routes. A pity he doesn’t apply the same zealousness to the rip off accommodation prices for tourists, especially at a public holiday and school holidays.

Whilst I am away in France in May there are two public holidays and no change to the price of my accommodation, unlike Cornwall. Also hotel prices in the four main chains remain the same for a whole year, one daily rate all year.

Later on in the same article a farmer says he is shaken that a lot of his customers are saying it’s almost as cheap to go abroad as it is to stay in the Westcountry.

I suggest he looks at Teletext holidays on his TV – ten days in Turkey in a four star hotel with all inclusive bar open from 11am to 11pm is less than 14 days bed and breakfast in Cornwall.

There is something intrinsically wrong with the way this country is run and all three parties are guilty of the same thing which is why you are all the highest taxed people in Europe.

DIETER ZETSCHE, CEO OF DAIMLER, TALKS ABOUT COMPANY EARNINGS ON BLOOMBERG TV

JULY 27, 2010

SPEAKERS:

DIETER ZETSCHE, CEO, DAIMLER

CAROL MASSAR, HOST “STREET SMART”, BLOOMBERG NEWS

09:31

CAROL MASSAR, HOST “STREET SMART”, BLOOMBERG NEWS: Daimler, the world’s second largest maker of luxury cars, raised its full year earnings forecast today after beating quarterly estimates on higher car sales in the U.S. and China.

Dieter Zetsche is Chairman and CEO of Daimler, and he joins us right now. Dieter, great to have you here on Bloomberg. Let’s talk about the quarter.

So many questions about the global economy at this point. From your perspective, your bird’s eye view, what would you say – how would you describe the economy at this point and the car sales market specifically?

DIETER ZETSCHE, CEO, DAIMLER: Well, thank you. Obviously we are living in a much better environment than last year. So there are very strong numbers we could show with Daimler.

Certainly we’re living from some tailwind on the one hand. But on the other hand, from very strong product, very good demand for these products, a lot of brand momentum, and a very good cost basis, which we have worked on last year.

MASSAR: Now Dieter, we mentioned that you guys raised your full year earnings forecast today. Now you’ve raised your forecast at various times throughout the year. What makes it so difficult for you to kind of give well aimed estimates?

ZETSCHE: Well, first of all, I think it’s not a bad thing when during the year you can increase your earnings outlook. I think all economist, all market observers were increasing their expectation for the year during the first half. That applies to us as well, that the environment has improved.

On top of that, we did not expect that at the same time, we could increase our sales volume significantly, improve the mix throughout our lineup, and at the same time, improve our pricing as well.

So basically all positive elements are coming together. And that is certainly going beyond our expectations.

MASSAR: Speaking of positive elements, that weakening euro definitely helped out sales in the first half of the year. How much did it help out?

ZETSCHE: Well, if you take the second quarter we’re reporting on right now, we had altogether a positive impact on a group level of 60 million from exchange rate. So there is an effect, but it’s not huge because of course we were hedged and we are hedged this year.

MASSAR: Alright, then how do you feel, though, about then the recovery of the euro? Or because you’re hedged, it doesn’t really make a difference?

ZETSCHE: Well, in general terms, I do believe that the second half of the next year we will see a continuation of this strong momentum. As far as exchange rates are concerned, we are hedged for about 60 percent of our exposure next year. In this area, we have very clear forecasts for the remaining 40 percent of this year. It depends on the development, which is relatively volatile these days

Set up supports

by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized

Set up supports and systems around you to instantly translate your intentions into action. Jump on every opportunity that is in line with your purpose and vision.

Keep the momentum going. No matter how hectic life gets, pledge to take at least one action a day. Even the smallest actions-jotting down a new idea, reading a single page, or making one phone call-can start to add up.

Are there smaller projects that lead to your larger dream that can give you pleasure in the meantime? If the dream is to run a marathon, train for a local fun-run first. And find a way to measure your progress. Track those little wins-by writing in a journal or telling a friend.

9. Are you telling yourself: “I can’t have my dream?”

Most people don’t believe they can live their dream. Either their belief system has them believing they can’t make a living doing what they love, or they feel they don’t deserve their dream. To avoid the pain of feeling they can’t have their dream, people often keep their dream so buried they can’t remember they ever had a dream.

Everyone has a dream! And everyone is destined to fulfill that purpose.

It doesn’t matter that your offer

by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized

It doesn’t matter that your offer is spectacular or your product first-rate. Without a headline that identifies the audience, grabs their attention and evokes a response, all else is lost.

Conclusion

I’ve known direct mail marketers who put all their energy into cool designs and flowery prose, while tacking on a headline almost as an afterthought. But I’ve never heard these marketers brag about their response rates or ROI.

Headlines have the power to make or break a direct mail marketing campaign. Treat them accordingly. Write them. Revise them. Hone them. Track and test them. And then start the process over again. You can’t afford to do anything less.

Taking pills are little causes

by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized

Taking pills are little causes and achieve only minor, short-term effects. Stop taking the pills and your cholesterol jumps right back where it was?an example of the cause and effect principle at work.

How does this apply to me? You might ask. Ask yourself the following questions.

? What effect would I like to see in my life that currently is missing? Maybe you would like more energy or better finances.

? What causes must I put in place to achieve that effect?
If you don?t know the causes, talk with someone who has achieved the effect you desire. Ask him/her what causes she/her put in place. If you consistently apply those causes in your life, you can achieve the effect you desire.

One possible explanation for its calming effect

by admin on Jul.29, 2010, under Uncategorized

One possible explanation for its calming effect is a compound called eugenol, which has been shown to help ease muscle spasms. Research is still preliminary, but laboratory studies also suggest that compounds found in basil may help disrupt the dangerous chain of events that can lead to the development of cancer

2/. CAYENNE Cayenne pepper is a hot red powder made from tropical chilli peppers. It contains alkaloid capsaicin, which relieves pain by blocking the chemicals that send pain messages to the brain. If you eat cayenne at the first sign of any type of headache, with plenty of water as a chaser, this spicy herb may be an effective alternative treatment.

Scuba Diving Vacation: Resorts in Cairns, Australia By: Steve Forbes by Steve Forbes
in Travel (submitted 2009-02-13)

There are many great scuba diving resorts in the world and one of the best is Cairns, Australia. It is a small city in the northern part of Queensland, established by miners heading to the Hodgkinson River gold field, developed later as a major port on the Australian northeastern coast. What makes it nowadays famous is the short distance to the Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world, made up of 900 islands and around 2,900 individual reefs! A large part of it is included in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park to protect better the ecosystems from there. Beside this main attraction, many tourists travel to Cairns to enjoy the rich wildlife in the rain forests from surroundings, especially in the Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.

A lot of scuba diving enthusiasts visit yearly Cairns, especially during the dry season (May- November), to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world on the Great Barrier Reef. The richness of the sub aquatic life (including many endangered species) is stunning and there can be seen a multitude of fish (over 1,500 species!), sea turtles (six species), whales, salt water crocodiles, 5,000 species of mollusk, 17 species of sea snakes, and 215 species of birds! Being part of the Coral Sea, the Great Barrier Reef features many species of marine plants (500 species of algae or seaweed live on this reefs) and around four hundred species of corals! It’s obviously that with so many interesting plants and animals to see tourists are advised to spend a longer scuba diving vacation to have chance to enjoy more of them!

Due to the large number of scuba divers and other tourists who spend a vacation in Cairns, in the whole region have been developed many resorts of all kind, where people find great accommodation. Beach resorts in Cairns are excellent bases for daily scuba diving trips and excursions to other attractions in the region. On the coast are settled hotels that address to vacation budgets of all sizes, from 3 star accommodation units up to luxury 4 & 5 star resorts which offer any imaginable amenity.

Some of the most visited luxury hotels are Hotel Hayman Island Resort Great Barrier Reef, Hotel Shangri-La The Marina Cairns, Hotel Cairns Beach Resort, Hotel Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa, Hotel Brampton Island Resort by Voyages, Hotel Dunk Island Resort by Voyages, Hotel The Sebel Reef House & Spa Palm Cove, Hotel Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Hotel Paradise Palms Resort & Country Club, Hotel The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa, Hotel Rendezvous Reef Resort, and Hotel Coral Sea Resort, while some of the most popular budget resorts are Hotel Hides Cairns, Hotel Cairns Queens Court, Hotel Figtree Lodge, Hotel Ferntree Rainforest Lodge, and Hotel Long Island Resort Whitsundays.

After tourists have enjoyed a few diving hours and come back to resorts in Cairns, they have at disposal many other things to see and to do. Of course, some choose to relax the rest of the day on the beautiful beaches from surroundings, to swim or just to laze under huts in front of the emerald-green waters of Pacific Ocean. Others play golf, practice white water rafting, or take coach tours to the Daintree Rainforest, Atherton Tableland and Paronella Park. There are also available scenic flights, day trips to Kuranda (a small town at 25 kilometers from Cairns) via Kuranda Scenic Railway, visits of crocodile farms, or wine tours that include some of the best cellars in the region. To attract even more tourists, in the city have been developed several theme parks such as Rainforestation Nature Park, the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, and the Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Due to the ever lasting memories gained during a scuba diving vacation in Cairns, Australia, many tourists come back over years to this region to enjoy once again its natural wonders

My dodgem was just the job for heavy city traffic

0 Comments | Mail on Sunday (London, England), The, July 25, 2010

Byline: Frank Barrett

The hotel receptionist suggested a maximum journey of about 30km in the electric car. ‘Is that as far as the extension lead will stretch?’ I joked. She smiled, as if hearing this for the first time, writes Frank Barrett.

There’s something about electric cars that invites levity. What leaps to mind are the odd-bods of the transport world: the Sinclair C5, the dodgem car, the milk float. With this sort of pedigree, would an electric car really be a good way of seeing London? Helping London realise its ambition of becoming the electric capital of Europe, ecofriendly boutique hotel base2stay Kensington is leading the way by offering the use of an electric Citroen to its guests.

The idea has much to recommend it as electric-car drivers enjoy free or reduced-fee parking in many London boroughs and exemption from the congestion charge. The only fully electric light passenger vehicle so far available in Britain, the Citroen C1 Ev’ie, is a fully featured, five-person road vehicle with a top speed of 100km/h and range of up to 120km/h per charge.

Until the end of September, guests at the hotel can enjoy free use of the car for the first four hours of their first booking. From October 1, rental is [pounds sterling]4 ([euro]4.70) per hour, [pounds sterling]20 ([euro]24) for half a day (six hours), [pounds sterling]30 ([euro]35) for a full weekday and [pounds sterling]55 ([euro]65) at weekends. Forget the Sinclair C5 (or even the milk float), the Citroen offers a fantastic driving experience.

I sped up to Hyde Park and stopped by the Serpentine lake, where I drew admiring glances from eco-friendly passersby
